Where has Common sense gone?

OK first this is not a I hate sports and all athletes are dopes, post. Second this isn't a "well guns are bad" post either. I have many guns all of them good end of discussion.

OK last year a WR for the NY Giants Plaxico Burris shoots himself in the leg at a club. Mind you he didn't hurt anyone else and did minimal damage to himself. Where is he, in jail for 2yrs. Now a PG for the Washington Wizards Gilbert Arenas brought 4 guns into the locker room he didn't shot anyone didn't even fire the guns he did "brandish" (never a good idea) a gun again no one was hurt. He has been charged with a felony that carries a mandatory 5yrs in prison. Again no outside person got hurt.

Now NFL WR for the Cleavland Browns gets drunk and high runs a man over and is convicted of vehicular manslaughter. He gets 24 days, yes I said days in jail and suspended from the NFL for a year. He killed a man.

So here's what I don't understand one guy kills a person slap on the wrist go away. One guy hurts only himself 2yrs in jail, next guy hurts no one he gets 5 yrs. Isn't it about time we start looking at punishment vs crime? And where is the out cry to ban cars? Or to ban alcohol?
